Agriculture is an important part of rural life in West Virginia (WV). There are many people who are dedicated to cultivating the soil, raising livestock, growing healthy food and making the Mountain State blossom. For some, it is a favorite pastime and for others it is a profession. For each, it can be a rewarding way of life.
Working the land can be tough on one's body especially when you have a disability, illness or injury. Many people want to start farming or gardening but are not sure how to overcome a barrier or limitation.
WVATS Farm & Garden is available to those working in agriculture as a job or hobby, as well as those who are interested in learning about it. We are happy to share information and resources about assistive technology (AT), accessible gardening methods, safety in agriculture and more.
WVATS is housed at West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities. We have a number of Assistive Technology devices, such as ergonomic garden tools, that we can demonstrate by appointment at the Center. Some of the devices are also available to borrow through our online loan library. For more information, call 800-841-8436 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
